On Wednesday, Robert had a half day and room the rest of the week off. So at the last minute we took a much needed weekend away at the cabin.
A quick stop for dinner and we were off.

On Thursday morning we went to the nature center - which has taken on a much different role now that I have kids:)

Butterfly Bella

Butterfly Cecelia

Butterfly Charlotte

We're just a bunch of fun-gis :)

Porta-bella and the wild mushroom band.

On Friday we went to the parade in accedent. I'm pretty sure we were all made for small town living. We had so much fun.
First we stopped in and bought some way overpriced Greek yogurt so we could sit here during the parade;)

I made headbands for the girls and while I ran an errand the left over material became capes!

At 7 we packed a little basket of cheese and crackers and juice. Blankets and chairs and headed to the college for the patriotic concert. When we pulled up at and there were no cars we figured something was wrong. I looked at the site and realized that I was looking at LAST years events!!! So we drive around for a while ended up at goodwill and made an ice cream stop before we headed back.

Here Charlotte is pretending to eat I've cream as well:)

The next morning we were off to the farmers market and yard sales...
Instead we did this and spent our morning in an auto shop waiting room :p

We finished up at 12:30 and stopped at this old pharmacy turned soda shop and antique store. As soon as I walked in the smell of food cooking and old things hit me and left me almost in tears. It smelled so much like Memaw's.

The food was ok but te milkshakes were all you would expect from a corner diner!!!

I walked around while we were waiting for our food. There were so many people there because if the holiday.

We finally made it home at two and I was able to finish this book while the girls slept. I knew coconut oil was good but I didn't realize just how good! This book was amazing and I wish I had read it long ago! If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it.

Monday night we found a really neat park outside of Oakland. Bradford park. and nearby a neat deli/bakery called the get n go (I was skeptical but it was great!)
We DID NOT want to come home!!!

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to share these pictures. It looks like y'all had a wonderful time. We have so many amazing memories at the lake. I think we've been to nearly every place you mentioned except the get n' go ;). Firefly Farms in Accident? They've been working on that for years. Looking forward to checking them out ... but yes, expensive, I'm sure! Boo that the concert isn't being held anymore :( I took all four of my kids there one year by myself ... they were 1, 2, 4 and 5. We sat in front of the Sheriff and he said our kids were so good that we should bring them into the station in Oakland to get their own badges. Remember, Mom, when you came up the next week we took them there and they were so rude to us :( Melissa, you look radiant in these pictures ... so nice to see your smile :)
So many things to say - I love going to the lake, with all the fun things to do, the girls look so cute and so do you, are you saying they are do not have the concert ever?, we really had some great Fourth of July times at the cabin, always loved the parade, the girls told me they got a lot of candy at the parade but they must have forgotten it at the cabin, yes, Andrea I do remember the badges, I could go on and on ---- glad you had a good time.
ReplyDelete"Firefly Farms in Accident?" my thoughts exactly!
ReplyDeleteLove all the pics- words are overrated :}
That is the way the Fourth of July was meant to be! It's on our "to-do" list for one day. Looks like so much fun. Glad y'all were able to get away for a bit :-)
ReplyDeleteSheila,
ReplyDeleteThe couple that runs the business live in Accident and we met them at the park one day and learned their whole story ... one thing I remember her saying was that they are from Philadelphia and had a really hard time making new friends in Western MD. That people really treat "outsiders" like "outsiders." They were friends with the people that opened up the farm shop next to Auntie Anne's and were so sad when they closed. They'd been working on buying that old white garage looking bldg in Accident for years and turning it into a shop/cheese making place. We saw them at the library once and then at the Frmrs' Market and would get updates. Not sure why, but they treated us like we were their old friends every time we saw them. Her name is Andrea but she goes by Andy :)
Love the lake! Miss it so much! So many good memories! I love the farmers market and the nature center. We can't go right now, but it always makes me feel so good when someone else is able to go. We even have Kellie broken in to the lake! She just has to make it to the coffee shop. Andrea, you have been gone so long that you are going to have to reintroduce half of your kids to the lake again!
ReplyDeleteAndrea, yes! I got so much cheese education from them at the Farmer's Market. I REALLY like them.
