The only problem I have it the inside front hangs down a little and makes the coat look crooked. Any suggestions? Should I just raise the hem gradually on that side?

October 4
Okay I want y’all to be super proud of me today. On Tuesday I spent ALL day on this project and by the time Robert got home at 4 the house was a wreck, every dish was dirty and the laundry was pouring out of the shower. But I had created this coat using a pattern from the 1960s that Christal’s got from her aunts house when she died. It is fully lined, made from vintage wool and if I do nothing else for a month I’ll still be happy with myself

Oh, wow! That is beautiful! A great way to use wool. What was it from? The hem almost looks like it is supposed to be that way so you could leave it. If the perfectionist in you say no, I think gradually hemming would be good. Oh, and since it only took you a day, could you make two more tomorrow and the next day in my girl's sizes???
ReplyDeleteSooo Stylish!
ReplyDeleteSmashing!! You will not remember the chaos, but you'll have the coat for a long time and be able to enjoy all your hard work. From the one picture I noticed, I'd definitely leave it, I agree, the crookedness is cute. But, I also know that feeling of something just bugging you forever, but I'd encourage you to not let it, if you can. Move on and get started with the coats for Lesli :) Eliza will wait for Christmas for hers.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful workwomanship!
ReplyDeleteI would let her wear it and see if anyone (you care about) makes a negative comment about the hem.
If so, and it still bothers you, fix it. If not, call it an eclectic design feature.
You may be able to take the buttons off and position them a little lower for an easier fix.
You did a good job!
I got the wool and the cotton from an estate sale - one of the things I really miss about living in Linthicum and yard saling. Ok I'll leave it and see if it bother me.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest the same as Shelia, about moving the buttons. I remember you telling about the coat, but I didn't realize you got the pattern from me. How awesome! My Aunt loved to sew & was really good at it, she would be proud.
