Kentucky

On Friday morning we packed up and left Travis and Kellie’s to head to Matthew and Kathleen’s.  Bella was beside herself with excitement and after five minutes in the car asked if we were almost there.  Cecelia has started asking that every time we slow down – stop signs, turns, red lights – we aren’t tired of that  at all:)

The trip takes four hours and we had been adding about 3 hours each trip with bathroom and nursing stops so we were hoping to get going around 8 am.  At 9 we nervously began backing down the hill at Travis’ , being careful to avoid the ditch on the side of the driveway (I was pretty impressed with Robert’s backing up skills) and we were on our way.

Leaving early seems to be the key for us,  we made it in just 4 hours and 45 minutes with only one stop!  Not giving the girls their own water bottles for the trip was key I think!  I also had learned that the cool hanging pockets I made for the girls weren’t such a great idea.  Within 15 minute of our other trips they had emptied them of all the toys, games, papers and snacks.  Bella complained of being bored and Cecelia cried because all her stuff was on the floor.

This time I kept everything up front with me and parceled it out over time.  It worked much better.  However, as Robert started to get on to me because I could barely move me feet and it was hurting his head – I couldn’t help but think of Mom and Daddy and realized that Mom really did need all that stuff around her feet:)

We are having a great time here.  Robert is pulling off the old siding and getting ready to put the new on today.  He also finished out the shower.  We’ve had some really good Ice cream and may or may not have visited Kroger's a few times for Blue Bell’s Cookies and Cream.  It does make me miss Memaw a lot though.

Bella rolls out of bed every morning asking for Bethany and anytime they are separated it is a grand tragedy.  I’m afraid what will happen when we pull out for Maryland!

Today Kathleen made a few water balloons for them to play with – they burned through those pretty fast so we ended up giving them water and cups.  They all loved throwing them and all cried when thrown at._MG_3064

  1. lovely post ... how in the world could it hurt Robert's head? really? why do men have such a hard time with this issue? I don't know why M & K are getting new siding, I think the brown brick is lovely (is it real, is the question!). You'll have to write a book down the road (ha, pun intended) about how to travel with little kids. How is baby Charlotte?

  2. I was thinking the same thing about Daddy before I read what you said. I kind of like the brown brick because it looks like real brick instead of old cheap siding.

Who needs room around their feet, really?

    Charlotte needs more camera time!

  4. I remember not having room around my feet on our trip, but it wasn't stuff to keep Josh entertained, it was for me...still camera with back up rechargable batteries, video camera, laptop, maps, National Park books, snacks... you know all those things you need while on the road at arms reach!
