Summertime Things

Homemade ice cream with cherry syrup on top.  If you add a little more water to the pie filling recipe it makes perfect syrup.

Longer days mean later nights and here is Arrabella learning how to play UNO.

  1. I feel like my life revolves around my next bowl of homemade ice cream!! Cute pool pics ... always exciting to see a new post! It doesn't get completely dark here until 10:30 ... very strange!

    1. Hmmmm... a bloop. Did you learn that in Mrs. Sutton's cooking class? You know I don't do bloops.

    4. This is our egg nog recipe that gets drunk before it gets frozen. Do you put the whole egg in or just the yolk? When Kevin makes it he does a BLOOOOOOOOOP of maple syrup.

  5. I have some still good for ice cream milk in the fridge but not still good for drinking milk (you know what I mean). We haven't had homemade ice cream in I can't remember how long. Family night tomorrow adn homemade ice cream. Sheila, a year or so ago, I made chocolare ice cream with a little mint extract in it for choc mint ice cream. It was so, so good. I would do that tomorrow, but we are out of cocoa powder. Not good. We are almost out of vanilla, too!!!

  6. OUT OF VANILLA!
I had extra milk so I made up a big batch of ice cream much like Melissa's but using cups and a spoon. I them froze it in 5 containers, just the right size for two servings. When your daddy gets home he will love this for a late night smack. If you put the frozen container out for a little while it will melt and you can stir it and it will be perfect.

  7. We tried a "raw vegan" ice cream tonight. Frozen sliced bananas in the food processor (a blender would work too I am sure), once it is thick and creamy add a big spoonful of peanut butter and a couple teaspoons cacao powder. Put in freezer for an hour or two. It was pretty good. The texture was like ice cream but it still tasted like a thick smoothie to me. Kevin and the girls loved it and said it was a keeper. Jared and I were on the fence.

Lesli, Kevin can not bear to eat mint and chocolate together so I don't see that in the near future. Maybe when I am "recovered" enough to make two batches.

We have some of Dan's milk, that was frozen, in the refrigerator. The kids don't love it for drinking so we are going to try a custard ice cream with that tomorrow night.

    1. I always knew Kevin was weird and please don't tell me you are going vegan. The word just sound funny.

    2. We are vegan we just hide it from our family so they don't think we're weird. :) Just put raw vegan so as not to be confused with raw ice cream as in not cooked milk.
