Just pulled to make room for tomatoes. I ‘m not sure how I was supposed to know they were ready, I guess I could have looked it up, but I just pulled them because I figured they had been in for a while and I didn’t have anywhere to plant my languishing tomato plants.
They are beautiful but are they supposed to be this small?

Oh, I love, love, love growing carrots. They are just so fun and easy. And the kids always pretend to be Peter Rabbit hiding from Mr. McGreggor when they pull the carrots. I so miss having not put them in this year. They loved to eat them right from the garden. It was just so crazy adn I didn't get them in. I would always read the package to see how long they were suppose to be in and then check the top of the carrot that you can see to judge if they were big enough. However, most packages say "Can be pulled early and used as baby carrots." Do you think you pulled them early? It is hard to judge exactly how big the are in the picture.
ReplyDeleteSome of them are pretty small but more than half are pretty good size.
DeleteBy the way, I am going to call you about the pictures. I jsut haven't gotten to it yet.
ReplyDeleteok=}
DeleteI used to check the tops, too. Unless you buy the right variety (short and thick) I think you have to pull them early because they really don't have the room in SFG to grow really big. They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyes some of the roots had made a right angle=)
DeleteWhen you can see the orange tops they are ready. But, like Andrea said, pulling early is usually done in SFG. I think they are sweeter as baby carrots - but you have to grow a lot more to equal the same harvest.
ReplyDeleteoh well that's easy. I thought they meant check the tops as in the green part. I was trying to figure out how that would tell you they were ready=)
DeletePotatoes, carrots, babies all in your garden- you are a real county girl!
