So I did things a little differently with Cecelia. I traded my photography class with a friend on Instagram for 200 squares of vintage sheet awesomeness! She sent me a picture of her two full bookcases of vintage sheets!
These are all the pictures she posted before I got them in the mail.
I was pretty excited to get them!!! I got started that night. Rob was gone so it was me, pride & prejudice and laying out and piecing.
The next morning I paid faith to play with the girls and finished piecing the top. I borrowded a bag full of pins and a blanket from mom and headed to mrs. Janice's to pin it all together.
Soamy things went wrong! The sheet backing and blanket wasn't big enough. I didn't take the time to tape the sheet down which led to lots of ripples. So I took it all apart :(
The next day I went to target and bought a organic cotton coverlet for just $30! That, a new sheet (.25 at a yard sale at the lake), a walk to church to tape it down, and dozens of pins later I was ready to go again.
At nap time I started quilting. I wanted to do straight lines all the way down every 1/2 inch. No good! So many wrinkles. I'm not sure what went wrong a I folded it up stored it in he bench and forgot about it.
Until Sunday morning when faith asked for all he pins back! So as soon as the girls were down for a nap Robert took Charlotte to marks and I quilted like a mad woman.
I went with free motion this time. It covers so many mistakes. Just takes a bit longer. By church time I had all but 12 squares finished and no dinner. My stomach kept me a little distracted during church :p
The next morning I finished up and at nap time did the binding.
Whew!!! So much time and work but so very worth it.

Oh. my. I was thinking how nice the quilt would be and then the picture of the top hanging on the clothes line!!!! I love vintage sheets!! How fortunate to get so many different squares!!! Are you really going to let Cecelia take it when she leaves home or are you going to pretend like it's a family quilt and keep it??
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a finished project!
I love the finished product. The edging is really pretty. Such a talented mother, I guess you got all those quilting skills from you Memaw and your Mom.
