Yesterday, Lesli took me to the cutest yarn shop. I mean so neat that I ‘m thinking about moving here. The ladies were so nice and helpful. We didn’t know how much we needed for our little sweaters so we decided to come back later with the pattern. When we came back that night the owner was there and spent over an hour showing us the yarns that would work, explaining how they would wear, looking for something in our price range. It was almost like we had a private appointment! I finally decided on a coral alpaca silk blend for the main sweater and a natural color for the stripes. It is SO soft! And as a super bonus it was 40% off Lesli chose something completely different including the pattern – but she will have to tell you about that. Another cool thing about that shop is that it has a great outreach opportunity for Lesli – WIP Saturdays and free knitting classes at night. What a way to get to know people and tell them about the church…right Rich? =)
I was excited to start so with needles in hand and youtube in front I began. We talked and worked until twelve – such fun – until the babies wake up in the morning =p
So after years of not knitting I’ve relearned casting on, garter and purl stitch, yarn over and knitting in back and front. Next is adding the contrast color. Fun! Anyone else started yet?
You ARE making Medina look good! I have started but am trying to use up my stash - not going as well as planned. I may have to break down and get some new yarn for this project. Your yarn looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteHer yarn is delicious! She fell in love with it as soon as she walked into the store. After an hour or so of looking at other yarn, she eventually went back and bought that first yarn she loved. I can't wait to show you my project/yarn. I put some money into it so becasue of that and all of us doing something together, I plan to finish this time. The yarn shop is wonderful. One little section of acrylics and tons of wool, cotton, bamboo, silk and alpaca. Natural fibers, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so jealous that sounds like a dream shop. Please teach me new tricks, I wanna learn!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! That sounds so like you, finding your favorite right away :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so much better in person than it looks in the picture. One reason I finally settled on it was because I leaned back on a chair and was shocked at how soft the thing I was leaning on was. Turns out it was a sweater the owner had made from the same yarn. Christal, I just picked a pattern that was rated somewhat easy and just started. Each time I come to something I don;t know I youtube a how to=) The Knit Witch is a really great resource on youtube.
ReplyDeleteEach time I came to something I didn't know I pulled out my little book from the 70's and looked it up as Melissa laughed at me. She is so mean :).
